Chinese Checkers Rule

Chinese Checkers (other names: Sternhalma, Chinese Chequers) is a popular board game played in China, although it has a German origin. It is not actually a variation of Draughts, but a modernized version of Stern Halma. This game is played in twos, threes, fours, or sixes.

The players’ main aim is to guide their pieces through the hexagram-shaped board and get them to the “home” corner. Chinese Checkers rules are pretty simple insomuch that kids can play and enjoy the game. Read more here.

The Chinese Checkers Strategy

All players are after a goal, which is to get their pieces into the star corner (called Home or destination triangles) located at the opposite side of the board. To win your opponent, you must guide your pieces to “home” become he/she (your opponent) does.

The gameplay is done in turns, and you’re eligible to move just one piece per turn. Each player starts from one of the colored triangles/star edge. Everyone playing the game gets up to ten (10) pieces placed corresponding holes in the player’s starting triangle. Usually, the pieces of each player are the same color as the player’s starting triangle color.

Also, just as in draughts, Chinese Checkers players can jump/hop over their opponent’s (or even their own) pieces in a straight line. There are six sides of the board; thus, up to six persons can play this game at the same time; turns move in a clockwise direction.

Unlike in draughts, when a player hops/jumps over an opponent’s piece, the piece remains valid and active on the board; it is not captured or taken away from the board.
